Wix, Squarespace or a site built for you: what should a contractor choose?

A plain comparison of cost, time and ownership, including when a builder is the better choice.

Short answer: Wix and Squarespace are fine if you will actually build and maintain the site yourself. If you are on job sites all week, the cheapest option is usually the one that is finished: a site someone else builds, that you review before paying.

What the builders cost

As of October 2026, independent comparison sites list entry plans on both Wix and Squarespace at under $20 a month on annual billing, and business level plans at around $39 a month. Prices and plan names change often, so check each provider before you decide. See this independent comparison for a current overview.

The monthly fee is only part of the cost. Add the domain, any paid add-ons you need for forms or bookings, and the hours you spend building and updating the site.
